Statement of commitment to Safe Ministry policy 

At St Alban’s Anglican Church Lindfield everyone has the right to be safe and feel safe.

We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct or abuse as set out in Faithfulness In Service: A National Code For Personal Behaviour And The Practice Of Pastoral Ministry By Clergy And Church Worker.

  • St Alban’s will, in conjunction with the Anglican Church of Australia -

  • Carefully recruit and train its clergy and church workers,

  • Adopt and encourage safe ministry practices by its clergy and church workers

  • Respond promptly to each concern raised about the behaviour of its clergy and church workers,

  • Offer pastoral support to any person who has suffered abuse, and

  • Provide supervision of and pastoral accountability to any person within the congregation who is known to have abused a child or another vulnerable person.

 

Statement of commitment to child safety

Acknowledging that all people are made in the image of God and loved by Him, we at St Alban's Church are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all children and vulnerable people.

We:

  1. listen to them

  2. treat them with respect, and

  3. identify risks early to prevent harm

To keep children safe, we commit to:

  • implementing the Office of the Children’s Guardian Child Safe Standards

  • providing a safe and supportive environment for all children and prevent their exposure to any form of harmful conduct or abuse

  • selecting, training and monitoring our clergy and church workers in line with diocesan Safe Ministry Training so that we can prevent, detect and respond to child abuse

  • making sure parents, caregivers and everyone in our Church community is aware of our Safe Ministry strategies and welcoming their feedback and shared responsibility to keeping children and vulnerable adults safe

  • empowering children to participate in Church activities, make decisions and to know who to approach should they feel unsafe
