In recent times the Skidz group (Sunday mornings, school years K-5) has been growing and last term it was bursting at the seams. On some Sunday mornings there were more than 50 children present. The decision was made to split the group into two, from the beginning of this term. So Skidz has now become Light and Salt.
Two of the main advantages of splitting into two groups are:
1. It is now easier for the leaders to prepare and run age appropriate games and teaching material.
2. There is now opportunity for our Sunday morning children's programs to grow and cater for more children.
Light is held in the Lower Hall and caters for young children in Kindergarten through to Year 2 at school. If you're interested, Light stands for "Lindfield Infants Growing in His Truth." This group is led by Chris Price and he is ably assisted by 5 other leaders (Ali Wheeler, Alice Radcliffe, Michelle Boyle, James Butterworth and James Monaghan). This term Light will be using the "Teaching Little Ones" material from Matthias Media. The series this term is titled "God's Promises and Jesus."
Salt is Held in the Upper Hall and is aimed at children in Years 3-5 at school. The letters in Salt stand for "St Alban's Lindfield Teaching-Time." This group is led by me (Adam) and I am helped by 4 other leaders (Stu Blair, Paul Crichton, Elle Tan and Julie Butterworth). This term we are using "Kid's Church" material from Youthworks and we are doing a series called "In Search of the Real Jesus - Through the Eyes of Dr Luke." Each member of Salt will have a booklet that we will slowly work our way through for the rest of the term. If each person at Salt brings in $3 we will cover the cost of the booklets.
Apart from the really catchy acronyms why are these groups called Light and Salt? In Matthew 5:13 Jesus said to his disciples "You are like salt for everyone on earth" (CEV). Just as salt has a unique, different and special taste, Jesus is saying that his people should stand out and be unique, different and special. In Matthew 5:14 Jesus said, "You are like light for the whole world" (CEV). By this Jesus meant that his people were to live in such a way that people would notice the brightness and goodness shinning in their lives and realise that this light came from their faith in Jesus.
Pray for the leaders of Light and Salt as they lead the children each week - pray that they would accurately and effectively teach the children from God's Word. Please pray that the children at Light and Salt would grow in their faith in Jesus and that as they grow older they would continually be light and salt in this world.
